Staff Development activities include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Attendance at Conferences
  2. Attendance at Workshops
  3. Attendance at Seminars
  4. Level I Coursework
  5. Level II Coursework
  6. Development of Course Outlines
  1. Evaluation of Educational Materials
  2. Presentation of a Demo. Lesson for New Teachers
  3. Peer Observations for Teachers on Step A
  4. Peer Observations for Teachers on Step B
  5. Presentation of a Workshop
  6. Co-Presentation of a Workshop

For more specific information about salary step requirements, restrictions, and procedures regarding staff development, see pages 25-31 of the Professional Development for Salary Step Advancement Guide (See: Documents).

Individual teachers are ultimately responsible for following the correct procedures to obtain staff development credit.

Salary Step Advancement Deadlines


  • June 15 (One-Year Option)
  • April 15 (Two-Year Option)
  • Teachers may be eligible for step advancement if:

    Have worked a minimum of 734 hours in current school year
    Have completed 30 hours of staff development verification in the current school year
    Have submitted Application for Step Advancement form by June 15 to: Adult Education Salary Allocation
  • Teachers may be eligible to combine two consecutive school 
years for step advancement if:

    Have not worked a minimum of 734 hours in current year
    Have submitted the Application for Step Advancement form 
by April 15 of the first year in which two consecutive school 
years will be used to: Adult Education Salary Allocation
    Will complete 30 hours of staff development verification in 
the first or the second year of the two consecutive school years
